Frequently asked Questions

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching and licensed professional therapy are two different services that can be valuable resources for individuals, but they serve other purposes and are based on different professional models.

Coaching is typically focused on helping individuals achieve specific personal or professional goals. Coaches work with clients to identify areas of improvement, develop strategies, and provide motivation and accountability. Coaching is generally future-oriented, emphasizing maximizing a person's potential. It can be beneficial for managing work stress, improving leadership skills, or achieving work-life balance. However, while coaches can be highly effective for these problems, they are not typically equipped to handle severe mental health issues.

On the other hand, licensed professional therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is provided by professionals who have undergone extensive training to understand, diagnose, and treat various psychological issues. Therapists work with clients to explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, understand past traumas and how they may impact the present, and work toward emotional healing. They are equipped to help clients deal with serious mental health issues like depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, and more. Therapists use various evidence-based techniques and therapeutic modalities to help their clients manage and overcome these issues.

In essence, while coaching is focused more on goal-oriented personal and professional development, therapy deals more with addressing and resolving underlying psychological issues and improving overall mental health. Both can be invaluable resources, but choosing the right service for your needs is important.
